Role Overview
The Group Financial Controller (GFC) is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the financial integrity, accuracy and compliance of MARCH’s Group reporting. With the organisation set to triple in size over the next five years through both organic growth and acquisitions, the GFC will be instrumental in building a scalable finance function.
The role leads group consolidation, financial controls, statutory compliance and audit, ensuring consistent accounting policies, strong governance and robust internal controls across all business units. The GFC plays a critical part in supporting strategic decision making and enabling the Group Finance Director to deliver financial and operational objectives.
Success in this role requires not only technical expertise, but also strong leadership, the ability to influence at senior levels, and the confidence to shape a high‑performing, collaborative finance function during a period of significant growth and change.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Lead Group cash flow forecasting and analysis, ensuring visibility of short and long‑term liquidity requirements.
- Monitor and optimise working capital performance, collaborating with operational and commercial teams.
- Provide insight to support investment, financing, and treasury decisions.
Leadership & Team Development
- Influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and build trusted relationships.
- Ability to lead through change, bring clarity, stability and direction in periods of transformation or growth.
- Mentor and develop financial controllers, management accountants and other finance team members across the Group.
- Promote a high‑performance culture, ensuring clear accountability and strong collaboration.
- Support recruitment, training and succession planning within the finance function.
Financial Integrity & Reporting
- Oversee preparation and delivery of high‑quality monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for the Group.
- Drive financial accuracy, completeness and robustness across all operating entities, engaging with finance across business units.
- Ensure timely and accurate group consolidation, eliminating intercompany balances and aligning accounting treatments across subsidiaries.
- Present financial insights, risks and opportunities to the Group Finance Director and senior leadership.
Month-End Close & Consolidation
- Lead and manage the end‑to‑end month‑end close process, ensuring efficient timetables and strong coordination across all finance teams.
- Implement best‑practice consolidation processes and continuously improve reporting timeliness and quality.
- Maintain and enhance the Group consolidation system.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Own the preparation of annual statutory accounts for all legal entities and timely submission to Companies House.
- Ensure compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the technical accounting lead, advising on treatment of complex transactions and changes in accounting standards.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Design, implement and maintain a robust financial control framework across the Group.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies, audit standards and risk management processes.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen controls, reduce financial risk and improve procedural consistency across business units.
External Audit & Assurance
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Manage the annual audit timetable, ensuring smooth coordination across all entities.
- Resolve audit queries and drive improvements identified through the external audit process.
Strategic Support & Business Partnership
- Work closely with the Group Finance Director on key strategic initiatives, including M&A integration, system enhancements and process transformation.
- Support strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Provide data‑driven insights to support decision‑making at Group level.
Other ad hoc projects
- Support the transition to IFRS16 (Leases) across MARCH Group,
- Any other duties as reasonably requested including projects to simplify existing process in MARCH Group
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
We are seeking applications from accounting professionals with either financial accounting, management accounting or audit experience.
Essential:
- Fully qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA), ideally with training in a Top‑Tier or Big 4 audit firm.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly in consolidations.
- Commercial mindset with experience supporting strategic decision‑making, investment appraisal or M&A integration.
- Demonstrable experience with group consolidation and statutory reporting.
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, scaling environment with evolving processes and structures.
- Driven proactive self-starter able to work as a team or stand alone.
- Able to deliver accurate outputs with strong attention to detail whilst working at pace.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience supporting both internal and external audit processes.
- Excellent understanding of internal control frameworks and audit processes.
- Strong cash flow and working capital management capability.
- Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to drive operational and cultural change.
