As the Draughtsperson you will be working on M&E construction projects, primarily within the water and wastewater industry, producing high-quality drawings and models using industry-standard software (both 2D and 3D design).
You will play a key role in supporting project delivery, including contributing to estimates, installation drawings, as-built documentation, and operation & maintenance manuals.
Working closely with the engineering team, you’ll develop detailed designs from initial concepts, adapting and refining models and drawings to ensure they are clear, accurate, and practical for use on site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop designs from P&IDs and layout drawings for new installations
- Produce concept and detailed 3D models
- Create detailed pipework and structural steelwork drawings (GA’s)
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including designers, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Attend and contribute to design reviews
- Conduct site surveys where required
- Support design verification and validation processes
- Ensure all designs meet water industry standards and regulations
- Carry out design risk assessments and identify potential hazards
- Manage design changes and maintain accurate documentation control systems
- Check drawings, calculations, and quantities for accuracy
- Produce as-built drawings and technical documentation
- Assist in the preparation of operation & maintenance manuals
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the design process
- Maintain high standards of quality assurance and control (QA/QC)
- Build strong working relationships across project teams
Skills, Experiences & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD 3D, or similar (essential for mechanical design)
- Background in the water or process industry (highly desirable)
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles
- Ability to visualise and develop designs in 3D
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- A proactive, solution-focused approach
- Confident working both independently and as part of a team
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering (NVQ, HNC, HND, or Degree)
